Nail polish is a lacquer used by women for fingernails or toenails in order to decorate and protect the nail plates. Nail polish can be made by mixing of an organic polymer and several other components. Nowadays halal and wudu friendly nail polishes are available and they are breathable and made by using industry leading water permeable.

Many recent studies found that the most popular nail polish brands around the world are much more harmful than they would seem.

What does the Research show?

Researchers conducted the study where 24 women were tested for signs of chemical toxins. They found evidence of toxins in the bodies of every single woman, caused by the nail polish. According to the results, 100% of the participants showed signs of triphenyl phosphate 10 hours after applying nail polish.

The same researchers continued with testing ten different nail polishes for triphenyl phosphate and discovered the chemical in 8 of them. Two of those polishes that were tested did not release the chemical.

What is Triphenyl Phosphate?

The biggest concerns about triphenyl phosphate (TPHP) is that it can disrupt humans’ endocrine system, which controls all our hormones. Dr. Heather Stapleton, head of the researchers expressed her concerns by highlighting the growing evidence of the negative effects of TPHP on metabolism, hormone regulation, reproduction, and development.

The young girls are more harmful by using nail polish regularly since healthy hormonal development is an essential part of their growth. TPHP poses a serious health risk to anyone exposed to it.

The TPHP is also known for being:

–           Neurotoxin (developmental effects)

–           Reproductive Toxin

–           Endocrine Toxin

–           Skin irritant and allergen

Other Health Threats

  1. Formaldehyde

Formaldehyde is a carcinogen that can dissolve in water and air. If you are exposed to this chemical you can notice symptoms of a scratchy throat, difficulty breathing, and asthma. The people who suffer from chronic diseases are especially vulnerable to poisoning from formaldehyde.

  1. Toluene

This chemical is known to obstruct development in children and can irritate the skin upon exposure. Some scientists found traces of it in the breast milk.

  1. Dibutyl Phthalate

This phthalate poses similar health risks such as hormonal disruption and reproductive system toxins.
