The family traditions are extremely important for the lives of their family members and strengthen the bonds between them. They actually enhance their mental and physical health.

According to researchers, the psychological factors, like loneliness, can cause death and disability, and that the people who live isolated and feel missing out face difficulties to perform their tasks during the day. These conditions reduce their mobility and led to health decline and even death.

The studies also showed that 5th and 6th graders who had a secure relationship with their mothers felt less lonely. They are friendly, responsive, communicative, and less critical in conversation, in comparison to the children who had a weak relationship with their mothers.

The negative experience of children in terms of their relationship with their parents is very often the reason for their irritations and stress.

What’s more interesting is the relationship between the child and the grandparents, which is of high importance, so it needs to be supported.

According to the study published in Gerontologist, researchers from Boston College who analyzed the effects of both, grandparents and adult grandchildren, the strong relationships between them reduced depressive symptoms.  This study involved 374 grandparents and 356 adult grandchildren and collected data for 19 years (1985 – 2004).

In the study was shown that grandparents enjoy giving much more than receiving because they want to be involved and engaged with their grandchildren.

While the study was processed, numerous grandparents who gave and received touchable support experienced the fewest symptoms of depression.

According to the associate professor Sara M. Moorman, from the Boston College, more grandparents and grandchildren engaged in this type of exchange, reduced depression.

However, the importance of parents in this grandchild-grandparent relationship is crucial, explains the researcher Shalhevet Attar-Schwartz from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

He claims that they should be aware of their role as gatekeepers in that relationship and about the grandparents’ potential to be an important resource in their children’s lives. This relationship is especially important in the families where is undergoing a change (divorce or remarriage), or if the child is undergoing a painful or challenging experience.

In most cases, the children are more open up to their grandparents and share their difficulties and dilemmas with them.

So, all parents should be aware of the fact that grandparents are essential for the life of their children. Also, they should bridge the relationship between both generations. This relationship guaranteed happiness and well-being to all of the members of the family.

According to the politician Rudy Giuliani, the children need more attention by their grandparents, and it is proven that grandparents give unconditional love, patience, kindness, comfort, humor, and lessons in life. In that relationship the most important are cookies.
