The main ingredients in this soup are ginger, garlic, and onion.

Ginger is an ingredient that is able to warm your body, which is especially important for winter time. For the summer months, everyone is focused on consuming fresh, cooling foods such as cucumber and tomato, while during the colder months of the year, you should be thinking of warming spices such as cinnamon, ginger, and energetic soups.

Garlic makes this recipe an excellent cure that prevents the ailments such as the flu, various sinus infections and common cold that can affect the body more easily during the winter.

Onion, like garlic, absorbs flu virus and common cold bacteria, which make it powerful in combination with other ingredients in this soup.

The fantastic recipe below combines the healing properties of garlic, ginger, and onion, with the energetic, wholesome, warming qualities of a delicious winter meal.


4 Green onions – finely sliced

2 cloves of garlic – peeled and finely diced

50g of finely sliced of grated root ginger

1 finely diced medium-hot chili

7 cups of chicken broth or stock (vegetable stock for vegetarians)

Optional mushrooms – chopped up or whole baby button

Method of preparation:

1)         Place the onions, garlic, mushrooms, and ginger in a large saucepan

2)         Gently saute ingredients on a low heat for 2 minutes.

3)         Add the stock and bring to the boil.

4)         Simmer while all the ingredients are softened.

5)         Add the chopped chili and simmer for a further 5 minutes

6)         Serve it warm, with crusty bread and a glass of lemon water (to encourage digestion and add further anti-bacterial nutrients).
