Both lemons and limes belong to the same family of tropical fruits. They have similar nutritional value, shape, and taste, but they differ a lot.

The name of lime is Citrus aurantifolia while lemon is known as Citrus Lemon. The taste of lime can be bitter, however, the lemons are sour in taste.

Taste Of Lemon and Lime

The lemons are sweeter than limes due to their higher content of sugar they have, while the limes have a bitter taste, which is especially used for making ideal cocktails.

They are often mixed with other ingredients or drinks, because eating pure lemon or drinking lime juice may not be a pleasant experience.

Difference in pH

They are acidic in nature but there is also a difference between them because limes have lower pH values, which make them more acidic compared to lemons.

Lime juice has pH between 2.00 and 2.35, while lemon juice has pH between 2.00 and 2.60.

Containment of nutrients

The nutritional values of limes and lemons are almost the same. Both of them in a half mug peeled fruit have about 2.8 grams of dietary fiber, 40 calories and 2-3% of vitamin B-9.

However, lemon contains more carbohydrates than the lime but it contains less protein. These dissimilarities do not have a huge effect on their everyday intake.

The shape of the lime is round, while lemon is oval. Both of them, like all other citrus fruits, is an excellent source of vitamin C. According to the nutritionists, lemons contain 53 mg. of vitamin C while limes contain 29 mg.

Another dissimilarity is that the lemons are rich in potassium and folic acid while limes are high in content of vitamin A.

Their similarity of the nutritional values are characterized by almost the same amount of vitamins and minerals and are rich in antioxidants, which make them beneficial in the case of cancer.

Both fruits have an alkaline nature. Lemons and limes can effectively fight carcinogens, as they contain limonoids.

They are used for detoxifying the body, as they can successfully remove the toxins from it, which cause inflammation and health problems such as diabetes and cancer.
