Everyone knows about the benefits of apple cider vinegar (ACV) and its use that lasts millennia. ACV has extreme potent properties to heal numerous different ailments.

It is excellent for weight loss, as it empties the stomach and provides a feeling of satiety. It has, also, powerful antibacterial and antifungal properties, and treats Athlete’s foot and yeast infections.

According to the study conducted in China, the apple cider vinegar can lower the risk of esophageal cancer by 37%. Additionally, apple cider vinegar contains acetic acid which helps in lowering blood pressure and bad cholesterol levels and thus reduces the risk of cancer.

Due to the anti-glycemic properties of apple cider vinegar, it is helpful in the case of diabetes, because it prevents the digestion of starches which raise the blood sugar levels.

Besides all these positive effects and benefits, if it is combined with some medications, apple cider vinegar can cause serious side effects and can lead to some health issues. It is at first due to its ability to reduce the levels of potassium in the body. For this and many other reasons it is recommended to avoid it in case you take any of the following medications:

  • Diuretics – Diuril, Microzidea, Lasix, and Thalitone

They use is for treating bloating, as they stimulate the elimination of the accumulated liquids. The ability of the apple cider vinegar to lower the levels of potassium in the body, and maintaining the water balance, may cause dehydration.

  • Insulin

People take insulin in order to balance the blood sugar levels, something that apple cider vinegar affects, too.  Because of that combining insulin with apple cider vinegar, they might significantly lower the blood sugar levels and potassium.

  • Digoxin or Lanoxin

In the case of heart, diseases are taken these medications, which are not compatible with the apple cider vinegar, because ACV obstructs the absorption of potassium in the organism. This combination, also, raises the risk of side effects like dizziness, vomiting, mood swings, diarrhea and vision problems.

The apple cider vinegar should be avoided, also in the following cases:

  •  Diabetics

Because of the ability to lower the levels of potassium in the body, like insulin does, they shouldn’t be combined, as they can reduce these levels to extremes.

  •  Pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers

The effects of the ACV on the fetus and the body during pregnancy are still unclear, so pregnant women should avoid it. Because of that, it might negatively affect the newborns, so breastfeeding mothers should not use apple cider vinegar as well.

  •  Postmenopausal women

As postmenstrual women have reduced bone density, the reduction of potassium levels in the body might lead to osteoporosis, so they should avoid the use of apple cider vinegar too.
