Dr. Weil was inspired by the powerful breathing techniques used in yoga. After a little experimentation, he produced the “4-7-8 Breathing Exercise”.
According to him, this breathing exercise will help you fall asleep in a very short time and if you are suffering from any sleeping disorders, you should give it a try!
Here are his written instructions:
- Inhale deeply through the nose to a count of 4 (keep your mouth closed).
- Hold the breath for a mental count of 7.
- Exhale through the mouth, to the count of 8, making a whooshing sound.
These three steps complete the cycle. It is recommended to do 4 cycles of this exercise. It will calm the mind and lower the heart rate. That will help you fall asleep easier.
