Colon cancer is very common health condition in nowadays that is caused because of the consumption of the processed meat, as it causes colorectal cancer in humans.

Colorectal cancer, which includes colon and rectum cancers, is the third most common cancer diagnosed recently.

Many Cases of Colon Cancer Are Preventable

According to the researchers, up to 35 percent of cancer-related deaths may be due to diet, 30 percent due to tobacco, 20 percent due to infections and the rest due to other environmental factors.

The good news is that colorectal cancer can be prevented via following lifestyle factors up to 50 percent.

  1. Eat More Vegetables and Some Fruits

They are rich in antioxidants and other disease-fighting compounds, such as magnesium, which decreased the risk of the colorectal tumor by 13 percent.

Anti-cancer effects of eating vegetables and fruits may be related to the ability to reduce insulin resistance, which may positively affect the development of tumors.

Phytochemicals (plant chemicals) have the ability to reduce inflammation and eliminate carcinogens, while others regulate the rate, help in getting rid of old cells and maintained DNA. They are the best source of dietary fiber and sulforaphane, which have been found to destroy the growth of colon cancer-derived tumors.

  1. Eat More Fiber

Dietary fiber has been put on the list of the most effective compounds that reduce the risk of colorectal cancer (e.g. colorectal adenoma and distal colon cancer). Nutritionists say that every 10 grams of fiber you add to your daily diet decrease your risk of colon cancer by 10 percent.

By eating more vegetables, you’ll naturally be eating more fiber from the best possible sources, such as psyllium seed husk, hemp seeds, flax seeds and chia seeds.

  1. Optimize Your Vitamin D Levels

Lack of the vitamin D is a risk factor for colorectal cancer because the vitamin D is beneficial for your immune system, which in turn may help you to limit the growth of cancerous tumors. According to the researchers the regular sun exposure, use of a high-quality tanning bed and/or supplementation with a vitamin D3 supplement can be great sources of getting your vitamin D levels into the optimal range of 50-70 ng/ml.

Processed meats (bacon, ham, salami, pastrami, hot dogs, pepperoni, some sausages, and hamburgers) are those preserved by smoking, salting, curing, or the addition of chemical preservatives.

Nitrates that are added to these meats are problematic because are frequently converted into nitrosamines that associate with an increased risk of certain cancers.

Excessive intake of alcohol and smoking are increasing the risk of colorectal cancer.

The experts define as the “moderate” alcohol intake of a 5-ounce glass of wine, 1 ounce of hard liquor and a 12-ounce beer with a meal, per day.

Smoking is an established risk factor for colorectal cancer because it is a heterogeneous process.

Garlic has a proven ability to kill cancer cells and lowers the risk of colon cancer up to a 35 percent.

Consuming high amounts of raw garlic also appear to have a lower risk of colorectal and stomach cancers.
