The thyroid gland is a butterfly-shaped endocrine gland, whose location is in the lower front part of the neck.

Its job is to produce thyroid hormones that are later secreted into the blood and transferred to every tissue in our body. Thyroid hormone enables the heart and brain to function properly, provides us with energy and keeps our bodies warm.

When the thyroid gland is not functioning properly, it can lead to numerous health issues like fatigue, weight gain, weight loss and restlessness. The most common thyroid disorders are:

  • Thyroiditis – It is an inflammation of the thyroid gland, which happens when Boyd’s immune system creates antibodies that attack the thyroid gland.
  • Goiter – An abnormal thyroid gland enlargement which leads to throat issues and swelling.
  • Thyroid Nodules –This is the creation of lumps within the thyroid gland as a result of abnormal growth of the thyroid cells.
  • Thyroid Cancer – Occurs when cancer cells form the thyroid gland tissues. Over 45,000 people are affected annually.
